The 4 mobile-data problems every study-abroad student hits

We've been there. Erasmus. Gap years. Language schools. Here's what catches everyone.

€€€

The €400 first-month bill

Roaming charges silently rack up while you upload Instagram stories from week one. A 1 GB roaming bill from your home carrier costs more than 30 GB on a local eSIM.

📋

The local-SIM bureaucracy trap

Most local mobile contracts need a residency permit, local bank account, and ID verification — all of which you won't have for the first 4-6 weeks. Prepaid SIMs from the airport convenience store charge tourist rates.

📍

The multi-country headache

Erasmus = weekends in 6 different countries. A single-country SIM dies the moment you cross the border. Buying 6 separate SIMs is absurd. You need one plan that covers a whole region.

📞

Losing your home number

Banks, your university, your family — they all text your home number for 2FA codes and emergencies. Swap to a local physical SIM and you're cut off. eSIMs run alongside your home SIM, so both stay active.

Get connected in 3 steps

From buying a plan to making your first WhatsApp call abroad — under 5 minutes.

1

Pick your plan

Browse 200+ destinations. Filter by duration (1 day → 180 days), data amount, region. We show plans from multiple top providers — you always see the cheapest available for your destination.

2

Pay and get QR

Secure Stripe checkout: card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, all major wallets. Your eSIM QR code lands in your inbox within seconds. ISIC code applies your student discount automatically.

3

Scan on arrival

When you land at your destination, open Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM, scan the QR. Done. Your phone now has 2 SIMs running: your home number for calls + travel data on the eSIM.

Built for every kind of student journey

Whatever you're abroad for — from a 2-week language course to a 4-year degree — we've got the right eSIM for your timeline.

Erasmus & Exchange Programmes

Hopping between Madrid, Berlin and Prague in one semester? One eSIM keeps you online across all of Schengen — no SIM swaps, no contract from a local carrier you'll cancel in 4 months.

Frequently asked questions

Stuff students actually ask before buying. If yours isn't here, drop us a line.

Do I need to be a verified student to buy an eSIM here?+
No — anyone can buy any plan at standard retail price. The student discount (when active) is an additional saving you unlock at checkout with a promo code or by verifying via ISIC, Student Beans or UNiDAYS. Without verification, you still get our regular pricing, which typically beats roaming by 80-95%.
Will my eSIM work for an entire semester abroad?+
Yes. We offer plans with up to 90- and 180-day validity specifically for long study stays. For most countries you can also top up your existing eSIM if you run out of data before the validity expires, without buying a new one or losing your line.
Is one eSIM enough for a multi-country Erasmus trip?+
Yes — for Europe, our Schengen / EU regional plans cover 30+ countries on a single eSIM. For broader trips (e.g. Asia + Australia), you can install multiple eSIMs on the same phone and switch between them in seconds. Most modern phones support 5-10 eSIM profiles simultaneously.
What if my phone isn't eSIM compatible?+
All iPhone XR and newer (2018+), all Google Pixel 3 and newer, and most Samsung Galaxy S20+ and newer support eSIM. Check your device's manual for 'eSIM' or 'Digital SIM'. If your phone is older, you'd need a physical SIM card from a local carrier instead — eSIM won't work.
Can I keep my home number active while using an eSIM abroad?+
Yes — that's the main advantage. Your home physical SIM stays in the phone for calls and SMS (so your bank, university and parents can still reach you), while the travel eSIM handles all data. This is called Dual SIM mode.
How does the ISIC student discount work?+
If you hold a valid ISIC (International Student Identity Card) or ITIC (teacher card), you'll be able to enter your card number at checkout to unlock an exclusive discount on top of our retail pricing. Verification is optional — you can also use a generic student promo code distributed by ISIC. The exact discount percentage and verification flow goes live once our ISIC partnership is finalized.
What happens if my study abroad gets cancelled?+
If you haven't activated the eSIM yet (i.e. haven't installed the QR code), we offer a full refund within 30 days of purchase. Once an eSIM is installed and activated, it's tied to your device and isn't refundable — same as a phone contract. Always wait until you're at the airport gate to scan the QR code.
Can I use the same eSIM for both study abroad and personal travel?+
Absolutely. The eSIM doesn't know if you're on a class trip or a weekend backpack — it just provides data. Buy a plan for your destination(s), use it for whatever you need: classes, GPS, video calls home, streaming, study group chats. No restrictions on usage type.
How fast will my eSIM be in dorms or rural areas?+
Speed depends on the local carrier network, not on us. We partner with tier-1 networks in each country (the same ones locals use), so you'll get 4G/5G wherever those networks reach. Rural campus or basement dorm room may have weaker coverage — same as a physical SIM from a local carrier. We list expected speeds (3G/4G/5G) on each plan before purchase.
What if I run out of data mid-semester?+
Two options: (1) top up your existing eSIM with more data via your account dashboard — usually instant, no need to reinstall anything; or (2) buy a fresh plan if your validity period has ended. Most students plan for ~2-5 GB per week, but heavy video-call users (think remote thesis defenses) should budget more.

Your study abroad starts at the airport.
Don't let connectivity be the part that fails.

Pick a plan, scan the QR, and walk off the plane already connected. Plans from €2.99. No contracts, no surprises.
